Prologue
The two black kits tussled on the ground. A brown-black she-cat carefully watched them, tiredness in her every stare. "Watch me Oakfight!" One of the kits squealed. The mother purred as the black she-kit tripped over her tail and went flying into the dust next to her sister. "Good job, Shadow! Now you can hunt fur-balls!" The other kit teased her. "Shut up, Darkness!" Shadow snarled and jumped onto her sister. "Oakfight?" Darkness suddenly asked their mother. "Yes, sweetie?" Oakfight purred. "Why isn't Claw here?" Darkness meowed. "I heard that she is our mother. Is it true and if yes, why isn't she here?" Shadow joined in. Oakfight sighed.
"Well, because Claw didn't have enough milk." She started to explain carefully. "So I had lost my kits, which means I have enough milk for you so she gme you to me." Without another word, she swept the kits with her tail into the nursery and hurried to the centre of the clearing where Seafight and Claw where talking. "A moment?" She growled at him and turned towards the entrance, not waiting to see if he followed. Shadow and Darkness watched from the nursery with a troubled look in their eyes. "Have we done something wrong?" Shadow asked sadly. Darknessfight shook her head. "I don't think so. She is just a bit-"
"Now, now." Claw interrupted. "Oakfight is just a bit tired, that's all."
"Okay!" The kits brightened up and wound around her legs, purring. She nuzzled them both. Acorntrack just walked into the camp and Shadow say her wince as she looked at them. The kits paid no attentiona and hurried to the nursery to play. Claw watched them for a while before heading towards the Healer den.
Leafheal was sorting herbs with Moon-help. One look from Claw told Moon-help to clear out. "Yes?" Leafheal asked without turning her back. "Should I be worried?" Claw replied and flicked her tail to Shadow and Darkness.
"No, I don't think so-" Leafheal winced as if someone raked her claws over her muzzle. Claw's eyes widened but she said nothing.
